Our History
In 1886, Thomas Stockwell Simms started the Simms Company. As an American Civil War Veteran, he invested his soldiers’ bonus and back pay in a tiny brush and broom business in Portland, Maine. This start-up operation opted to move to Saint John, NB in 1872. This port city became well regarded for its shipbuilding contributions and famous throughout the world.
Simms underwent numerous issues but was a talented man who continued and found success. Unfortunately, he tragically lost two wives in addition to an awful factory fire. He managed to focus even with these tragedies and powered his company ahead.

Lewis Wesley Simms
